Less than 1 week to go now before Steampunk hits the Griffin, Dudley, for a FREE evening of various delights.

Doors open at 5, giving you opportunity to peruse the wares of the likes of SparklesbyGem and Steampunk Relics; and of course an opportunity to examine the exquisitely fine tomes of Mr Steven C. Davis and myself; and you can also come and have a chat to us about the origins of Steampunk if you'd like to know more about how it all began.  I will, of course, have both volumes of The Automata Wars available, as well as the first three volumes of The Asylum Chronicles, all published via The Last Line publishing house.

As if that wasn't enough, you'll also be able to see superlative performances from Black Country steampunk band Birthrite and steampunk burlesquer, the lovely Steam Tease.  And even if it doesn't need saying, I shall say it anyway - you'll also be able to catch Crimson Clocks, with, for your delectation, at least one brand new number... (Clocks pussy Trevor will of course also be on hand - or on paw).

Did I mention that it's also free?  What are you waiting for... facebook event is here; we look forward to seeing you on the night!

A Darker Shadow reviewed!

18/3/2014

Yes, I thought I'd take the opportunity in this weeks blog to let you all know about the (as far as I know) first review of Crimson Clocks new EP, A Darker Shadow...
Picture
A Darker Shadow was released at the end of January this year, and contains 7 of the finest musical interludes to ever grace your ears.  OK, 6 - the 7th track is a remix of the first (but beware the 7th track of a 7th album, for it has special powers... as this is only our second CD, that last statement does not apply).

Last week, we were very excited to see a review  of said opus from a gentleman who has considerable experience in the music business.  We were even more excited to read it, as it said some quite lovely things.  Take a look for yourself here:
http://mrstu616.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/crimson-clocks-darker-shadow-ep-review.html

You can, of course, hear us perform tracks from the EP at Steampunk at the Griffin, Dudley in less than a fortnight on Sunday 30th March - FREEEE entry - why not treat your mother?

Not only that, on Sunday 20th April, you'll be able to hear a selection of tracks via your PC and Steven C. Davis and I host a special edition of the Gothic, Alternative, Steampunk, and Progressive webradio show on Blast 1386.  The Crimson Steampunk Carnivale will broadcast from 9am - 5pm - oh yes - playing hordes of your favourite tunes (with a carnival/ circus/ crimson theme to them), all to
raise awareness of New Futures Nepal and the work they do with orphans and disadvantaged young children in Nepal and India.

And of course, don't forget your regular  GASP show, 8pm - 10pm (UK) every Tuesday, hosted by Steven C. Davis, with occasional interludes from me...

Five(ish) movies to de-stress by...

Last week I was unexpectedly sent a chain letter.  Not a letter made out of chains, but one of those 'pass this on to the next person on the list' type of things.  It was unexpected because I had never thought of the sendee as someone who would take part in chain letters (not to mention that the sendee is someone I haven't seen for a while!)

It wasn't a chain letter that threatened bad things to me/ my postman/ my neighbourhood/ the local rat population if the instructions were not followed.  But it did ask me to send an inspirational  quote to a couple of strangers.  Some words that I have been inspired or uplifted by in times of stress and trouble.

On the face of it, this is a lovely sentiment.  However, when I'm stressed or troubled, I tend to turn to films.  Fairly violent or gory films.  So I wasn't sure exactly how inspired the recipient of, "
This stuff will make you a god damned sexual Tyrannosaurus, just like me", would actually be...

So in lieu of scaring strangers, I've decided to list some of my most de-stressing films for the edification of you newer strangers ((c) JD Morrison).
  1. Any of the Alien films (dependent on time available)
Ah, Ripley.  The most tragic heroine of all time - even when she killed herself to destroy the monster, she still couldn't escape.  The Alien films have pretty much everything you need to de-stress - acidic slime, crawly strange-jointed teethy beings, betrayal, mad science, greed, gore, heroism and big, BIIIG guns.  A definite pick me up.

2.    The Chronicles of Riddick (but especially Pitch Black)
Richard B Riddick.  The eyes.  The effortless badness.  Here we have the antithesis of Ripley, the archetypical anti-hero - and doesn't he do it well.  Teeth monsters too.  And betrayal, greed, gore... I sense a pattern developing.  Sometimes it's difficult for an anti-hero to become a hero without losing something - you see it in the wrestling all the time.  So far, Riddick is just about managing...

3.    John Carpenter's Vampires
Vampire teethy monsters,  BIIIG explosions, heroes who are also anti-heroes, blood, betrayal.... Did I mention the BIIIG explosions?  The book adds a lot of depth, but the film is loud enough to be another good pick me up.

4.  Predator.
Jesse 'The Body' Ventura in a seminal role: "I ain't got time to bleed".  Monsters, slightly teethy though the teeth are largely incidental.  Big guns, and big guns.  Blood, guts, alien slime.  Mowgli wouldn't have stood a chance.

5.  The Woman
Now this.... is a disturbing film.  Quite disturbing, especially when you find yourself on the edge of your seat cheering on your protagonist.  This is brilliantly played by Pollyanna McIntosh in the lead role, and just proves exactly how amazing how uplifiting a lot of bloodshed can be.

A short list.  But I hope you all now feel suitably moved and inspired...   til next time, "Stick Around"...

Introducing my pussy (his name is Trevor)

Yes, it's true.  The infamous Crimson Clocks pussy, Trevor, is stepping into the limelight.
Picture
Ok, so Trevor has been on display in public once or twice before - quite shamelessly, some might say - but now he's stepping fully into the limelight, taking  his rightful place with the other members of Crimson Clocks.  Trevor, of course, features heavily on our choon 'Evil Genius' (which, for those of you who are unfamiliar, can be heard here); and travels with Crimson Clocks across the country to perform (he's such a professional).

Trevor is now following in the footsteps of other esteemed members of the community such as Pocket Harper-Bear, Wolfie Oswin and Steampunk Munki by creating his own facebook profile, all the better to thereby interact with his adoring public, so you can expect more photos of Trevor off stage as well as on, during his travels, and when he's relaxing at home in his deluxe kitty mansion.

All hail the mighty Trevor
So if you would like to be on better terms with my pussy, please feel free to contact Trevor on facebook - he's quite friendly, and doesn't bite.*

*Actually he does.  He's a cat.  What do you expect?
