Today I met with two lovely ladies from a mummers dance troupe, Belascuza. They had seen my band Crimson Clocks' debut gig a few weeks ago, and we had struck up a conversation.
Belascuza aim to go beyond traditional tribal style belly dancing. Taking inspiration from celtic battlefields and medieval courts; from futuristic realms and beyond, they fuse tribal dance with British and European Folk , and adapt their dance style to push the boundaries; excite audiences; and tell stories...
Given Crimson Clocks' leanings towards dark fiction, dramatic music, breathtaking violin and of course our own interest in storytelling, a collaboration was inevitable. An excuse to fuse mythology with dark sounds, stirring strings and hypnotic drums, and have it interpreted by a talented group of damsels, sometimes wearing crow masks? Oh, go on then!
I'm now busy researching some dark myths from across the globe, mining for lyrical content, while Belascuza consider what stories they would like to tell. Look out for the results coming later this summer. You have been warned...
*excited!*
