About me?  Well, how very kind of you to ask...

Picture
LM Cooke is a British writer of dark fantasy and science fiction. She blames her writing style on her mother, who brought home lots of science fiction and fantasy books from the library when LM was a child. As a result, LM was introduced to authors like Asimov, Silverberg, Anne McCaffrey and Tanith Lee at an early age, and had developed unhealthy obsessions with works like 'The Lord of the Rings' by the age of ten. Preciouss.

LM Cooke is the author of ‘The Automata Wars’. This steampunk/ science fiction trilogy is set in an almost-familiar city in an almost-Victorian period, and is published by The Last Line publishing house. Volume 1, The Home Front was released in September 2012, and volume 2, The Front Line was released in July 2013.  The concluding volume, Back to Front, was released in April 2020, and is available from Amazon.  LM Cooke also contributed short stories to the first three volumes of ‘The Asylum Chronicles’, the steampunk anthologies also published through The Last Line. LM's short stories have also been published in Steam Flashes (published by Tenebrous Texts) and Airships and Automata (published by Cogsmith Publishing), both of which were published during 2016. In 2017, she had a poem published for the first time. 'Inside/Outside' appears in the charity anthology, Within Darkness and Light (published by nOthing BOOKS, proceeds to UK mental health charities).

LM Cooke is also a musician and  vocalist. She
writes, records and performs under her own name (LM Cooke music), and also performs with the popular beat combo/ ritual sacrifice troupe, Mediaeval Biaetches (no longer performing due to the very sad passing of one of the trio). Previously she was singist, occasional instrumentalist and main lyricist/ composer in the dark, twisted but-occasionally-amusing band Crimson Clocks, and prior to that she was main composer and violinist in the steampunk band Broadarrow Jack.

She has a keen interest in history, having recently completed a Masters degree in the History of the West Midlands, and provides workshops, talks and presentations on steampunk, music, history, writing and more. In her spare time she plots galactic domination, while contemplating the divine nature of cheese.

"...transcends genre limits to such an extent that if we didn't call it Steampunk we'd have to call it something like Gothic-Science fiction-Crime-Thriller-Horror." - The Last Line Publishing House on ‘The Home Front’.
